Where's the year going!?

Before I've even had a chance to reflect, a 3rd of the racing season is already done and dusted! So this is probably a good time to have a quick catch up and cover some of my results.

All the time is going! So here's an update!

April/May has been a bit timetrially - with March & April early season covering some much needed leg openers (arse kickings). I've made a few silly mistakes in the road races but thankfully they're mistakes I'm not all that gutted about. I can compare my strength now with last year and despite having another slightly desperate sickly late winter I'm actually in quite a really good place with  my fitness.

I'm a bit weird with training too, when I'm working towards racing season doing lots of intervals and things I always seem to get sick very easily. But as soon as that training time decreases and time racing increases my legs seem to find some sort of magic. It takes a while, thankfully this year it's started to come a little earlier (last year my legs appeared at the END of the season.....not helpful!).

The timetrial side of things has been going very well, seeing improvements in my fitness through the TT events has given me a great boost of confidence. There have also been a some races where, despite final results, I know I've done a great deal of work and performed strongly.

So all in all, while we're in to May and that top 10 is still looming somewhere, it's still been a very positive start to the season. I've been super psyched to get a couple of category (female) podiums & wins in the TT's in my beautiful purple Champion Systems VCUK PH-MAS speedsuit - I'm convinced it's been saving me vital seconds! Most recently I was first lady in the Manx 25 Mile Championships which to me is really awesome, I'm really proud of my Manx upbringing and competing (and succeeding) locally is just as important to me as competing away.

Next up for me is yet more local racing, mainly timetrials until June. The scene here is super strong and it's absolutely needed for me as these races are what brings my legs on tenfold at this time of year. We have to race with the lads which is never a bad thing, it's a long and painful process but by midway through the year the art of clinging on for dear and painful life is generally about sussed!

Then it's on to stage and circuit racing in the UK, I'll be competing in some smaller circuits over the next three months with the hopes of getting some good placings to get me some points. The points situation for me is becoming quite desperate as I'm so, so keen to be able to compete at a national level next year and won't be able to without a license upgrade. The stage races....well, I'll just have to see how those go but it'll be great to get experience riding with others from the team in harder events. I'm lucky to have the support of the Steam Packet to help me get to all of these races!

It's really awesome to see myself come on this year, as far as riding a bike is concerned I think I'm really starting to develop properly and after many conversations with the coach - I think the next two to three years is going to be really exciting!

So until next time! Cheers! :)
